Pictures: Buglasan Parade 2009

It was a showdown of Dumaguete’s best last Friday as participants of the Festivals of Festivals Street Dance bannered their colorful costumes and props at the city’s main roads.
The competition, which began 2 p.m., was among the highlights of Buglasan Festival 2009.
Every year, not only Dumaguetenos but tourists as well mark their calendar for the celebration of this event.
Buglasan Festival is held every third week of the month of October in the City of Gentle People.

Kasalang Filipino 2009

“Kasalang Filipino 2009 - Maanyag nga Lalik” is a wedding fair and exhibit open to the public for free admission. The exhibit includes wedding supplies and displays, floral and event styling, Ever Bilena bridal makeup competition and fashion show. The event is co-presented by kasal.com, ABS-CBN, Bethel Guest House, and Key Cities.

Big October feast in Negros

THE month of October brings out the best of the island of Negros as two big fiestas for everyone to relish and enjoy await residents and visitors here.
Negros is the fourth largest island in the Philippines. It is divided into two provinces — Negros Oriental in Central Visayas and Negros Occidental in Western Visayas.

The float category every year is a much-awaited attraction for Sinulog spectators — both kids and adults.
The Sinulog Festival is Cebu’s celebration of Señor Sto. Niño’s feast held every third Sunday of the month of January.

One of our readers issued a comment last December 28, 2007 asking Dumaguete Life to post some photos of the different booths featured during the recently-concluded 2007 Buglasan Festival.
And since we give importance to our readers’ request, we are glad to share few photos taken at the Sidlakang Negros Village.

The Buglasan Festival of Festivals, now called Buglas Festival, was held last December 21 to 31, 2007. Previously, this famous festival of the whole province of Negros Oriental is celebrated every October.

Dumaguete City, capital of Negros Oriental, held last November 25, 2007 their 59th Charter Day Anniversary and Fiesta Celebration.Together with some friends, I had a short stroll in the city and saw how the Dumagueteños celebrate their fiesta.
The St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral was crowded with faithful — a gesture of the Dumagueteños showing how much value they give their patron saint.
People also pay homage to Our Lady of Perpetual Help by lighting candles at the Dumaguete Belfry where her grotto is situated.
